‘Batgirl’ Star Ivory Aquino Responds To DCEU Film’s Cancellation Hollywood Entertainment News

    Hollywood Entertainment News Mummy-

Actress Ivory Aquino responded to Warner Bros. Discovery’s cancellation of the DCEU film, Batgirl.

Earlier this week, Warne Bros. Discovery made the unprecedented decision to cancel the DCEU film Batgirl, a film that had already finished principal photography and was close to complete in post-production. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, along with the lead actress Leslie Grace have already made their responses to the cancellation, and now actress Ivory Aquino is making her response known.

On her official Instagram, Ivory Aquino shared a few behind-the-scenes photo from Batgirl, in which she expressed her gratitude for the experience, while celebrating how the film was an opportunity for underrepresented demographics to be represented on a DCEU film. This would’ve been significant, given that Aquino is a Filipino-American transgender actress:

In the DCEU’s cancelled Batgirl film, Ivory Aquino was supposed to play Alysia Yeoh, a character that was created by Gail Simone. In the comics, Alysia Yeoh is Barbara Gordon’s best friend, and the first major transgender character in a mainstream comic. The character was also involved in the first-ever transgender wedding in a comic in issue #54 of Batgirl.

Along with non-binary performers Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen/The Flash and Quintessa Swindell’s Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone, Ivory Aquino would’ve been the latest transgender performer to join the DCEU. Although Batgirl is now cancelled by Warner Bros. Discovery, the company has expressed a desire to work with some of the creative team again. Perhaps if these characters were to be revisited, this could lead to the return of some of the same creative team, but that may mean that some major bridges would have to be repaired.

Batgirl was set to feature Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, as well as J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Keaton is still set to reprise his role as his version of the Caped Crusader in the upcoming DCEU film, The Flash.
